The Rock Island-Milan School District #41 (RIMSD#41) is a PreK-12 public school district that encompasses the City of Rock Island and Village of Milan. There are 9 elementary schools, 2 junior high schools, 1 high school, and 1 alternative high school. The district also has a comprehensive Pre-K and Head Start program through the Horace Mann Early Learning Center.

Eight elementary buildings are "Leader In Me" schools which follow a framework developed by Franklin Covey in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Students in these schools learn how to become self-reliant; control emotions; set and track goals; do homework; prioritize their time; increase interpersonal skills and develop the skills and self-confidence to lead their lives with success.

In partnership with Black Hawk College and Western Illinois University QC Campus, Rock Island High School junior and senior students have an opportunity to earn dual credit (high school and college credits) with approval of the principal or counselor. Dual credit classes must be taken during our regularly scheduled school day and students are responsible for the tuition and fees. In addition Rock Island High School offers 15 advanced placement (AP) classes where college credits may be earned based on scores.

The award winning PRIDE of Rock Island Marching Band is widely regarded as one of the top marching bands in the region and is known for original productions and elaborate field shows. The band won third place in their class in the 2017 Illinois State University Marching Band Championships. See their winning performance on YouTube. In addition, the high school offers seven curricular music ensembles including three choirs, three bands and one orchestra.

AVID is a year-long academic elective course that prepares students for college readiness. Students in this program are capable of college-prep work but may be falling short of their potential. It provides a multi-layered support system to enhance academic achievement, motivation and preparation for post-secondary success. In addition to the AVID course, students are required to be enrolled concurrently in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum including Advanced Placement classes. Almost all AVID students who participate for at least three years are accepted to college.

Rock Island High school campus includes some of the best facilities in the area for athletics, physical education and performances. These include:

• 1,500-seat capacity auditorium
• 15,000-seat capacity football stadium that has been recognized in the State of Illinois as one of the Top Ten sports facilities
• 6,000-seat capacity field house for athletics
• A one-million-dollar fitness center for athletes and physical education classes

We proudly serves a diverse student population with multiple learning opportunities that are designed to empower, enrich and help all students excel in the future. Thirty-four languages are spoken among our 6,518 students.

Two programs at Rock Island High School allow students to complete a certificate in Welding or as a Certified Nursing Aide upon graduation and passing the state exam. These students graduate ready to enter the work force.

Our Class of 2017 earned over $4 million in college and trade school scholarships, awards and grants thanks to an active school district education foundation as well as support from the Booster Club and Rock Island High School Alumni. In the last 10 years there have been 8 National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalists and 12 National Merit Commended Scholars - more than any other high school in the Quad Cities.

We work with many partners to provide quality after-school care such as the YMCA Two Rivers, the YWCA of the Quad Cities and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. In addition, the district has a partnership with Spring Forward Learning Center which conducts K-3 after-school programs at several of the elementary schools.

Our high school INCubatoredu Entrepreneur and Enterprise class is the only program in the Quad Cities area that gives students an opportunity to create their own business product or model and pitch it to potential investors.

All our buildings are wi-fi enabled. Elementary classrooms have interactive whiteboards and wi-fi as well as iPad and Chromebook access for students.

Google Drive and student email enable junior high and high school students to have their own drive for projects that are accessible from school computer labs and at home.

Junior High and High Schools use online grading systems where parents can log in and check student progress throughout each quarter.
