Bettendorf Middle School provides students with rigorous learning tasks through a project based learning approach. Project based learning is not a curriculum, but it is an instructional approach that presents students with real-world problems for them to solve. Project based learning connects different curricular areas, provides students with real audiences, and requires them to apply their learning at a deep level. Over the years, students of Bettendorf Middle School have participated in project based learning units that have enabled them to build tiny homes, create a community garden, plant prairie plots, partner with film students from the University of Iowa students to create movie trailers, and so much more.
